The Book Thief

I finally finished reading all 500+ pages that make up The Book Thief last night.  I must say Markus Zuzak is a remarkable writer.  It was interesting to have the book written from Death’s perspective.  I wonder if he did that so that he could branch off to follow characters to other locations without having to explain how Liesel (the main character) knew what was going on.

Any time I come across a great work of literature like this, I’ve always wanted to know how the author approached writing the novel.  What even gave Markus the idea to write Liesel’s story?

Anyways, if you have time to spare, I highly recommend reading The Book Thief.   I will warn you though, the ending has the potential to be a tear jerker.  I will admit that I was crying when I read those last few chapters.
